Intro to Prismacolor Practice
For our intro to Prismacolor colored pencils, we practiced techniques on the sheet to the left, made a weaving pattern pictured in the middle, and practiced using the pencils to draw an ice cream cone or cupcake on the right.

Final Piece & Reflection:
Final Piece:
Reflection/Self Evaluation:
1. For pen and ink techniques, I decided to use multiple methods for adding value and dimension. The process I used was quite simple, and I basically decided to use the method that made the object I was drawing look the most realistic. For example, I used hatching and cross hatching on the house to make it realistic.
2. I used perspective on the house and the trail leading up to it. Perspective is important because it makes the piece look 3D instead of looking flat. Also, it adds to the realism of the piece.
3. Texture is important to create realism as well. Without texture, the scenery looks plain and flat and it looks more like a sketch than a piece of art.
4. Value is important in this project to create dimension.
5. I think I did well on this piece considering that I have never really explored pen & ink in depth. I tried to go for something simplistic yet detailed. What I mean by this is that the detail work in the compartments of the piece are complex, but the overall arrangement and composition is simple.
6. If I could recreate my piece, I would have redone the deer in the lower left-hand corner. In my opinion, the deer looked a lot better in my original sketch, and in the final piece I messed up the proportions. It looks more like a strange unidentifiable creature than a deer. I also would have made the stream of water more realistic. My lines are slanted in the stream when they should be horizontal. This was a weak point in my understanding.
7. My fairytale was Snow White. I read the story and depicted a more modern version of the dwarves’ cabin in the woods for my piece. Essentially, I drew what my head pictured and just let my hand follow what my brain thought.
8. It is important to understand pen and ink concepts so that the piece you are creating looks realistic, dimensional, and compositional.
9. Seeing as I have never experimented with pen and ink, I learned a lot about value, composition, and the techniques associated with the medium. I feel like I now have a good basis to continue working with pen and I might actually enjoy it. Typically, I lean towards acrylic paint as my main medium, but I am excited to experiment some more with pen and ink after learning about it and testing my abilities.
*Side note*
I apologize for the angle and quality of my pictures, I did not have my phone during this project and I was forced to use a laptop camera...

Intro to Pen & Ink Unit:
To start off the pen & ink unit, I drew 4 value charts using different shading methods. I used hatching, cross hatching, stippling, and invented. I also watched and took notes on 4 informational videos and copied the practices shown above. I enjoyed the second video where I made realistic textures on a cylinder. Lastly I worked on a stippling worksheet to improve my technique.
Drawing & Perspective:
In these exercises we learned how to draw street views in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd point perspective. Pictured above are my notes and practice, and finally a drawing of a lego structure I built in class.
Intro to Drawing Practice:
-For this sketchbook practice I drew and shaded a sphere and a triangular pyramid using a regular pencil. I also did a still life of some art supplies that were provided on my table (rightmost picture.) Lastly, I created a value chart in the picture to the left.
